How I Quit My Day Job

Hi, I'm Mary, the owner and creator of Going-Green-Challenge.com. If you've browsed around the site, you can tell I'm passionate about making better choices for the environment.

Why did I create this website? This picture sums it up for me. This is my son, finding his way through "tree tunnels" (as he calls them) in a nearby nature preserve.

I took this picture on a random Wednesday morning. Like most people, I should have been working. But unlike my former co-workers in the corporate world, I don't have to call in sick.

When I discovered I was pregnant, I had the same emotional reaction as most mamas-overwhelming joy and excitement. I was also terrified.

I was scared to death to send my son to daycare-to have him spend 9 hours a day with someone he didn't know and that didn't know him. If only I had a friend or family member nearby, or a daycare provider I knew, but I didn't.

My fear was a little irrational, I know. After all, most of my friends send their children to daycare. They are well adjusted and happy kids.

While many Mom's want to go back to work (and shouldn't feel guilty for it) it wasn't what I wanted. I had worked so hard through college to end up in a job I disliked tremendously. I was miserable.

So while we each find our own path, I knew I had to trust that mama instinct and find the right path for my family.

I spent many hours researching online, trying to find a way to make enough money to stay home with my son. I came across Site Build It! several times, but it took me weeks of reading and watching the case studies before I finally took the plunge.

I started Going-Green-Challenge.com several months before my son was born. I am so happy (and a little proud) that I never had to go back to my corporate job.

I now work in the evenings and while my son naps. We visit "tree tunnels" often. I am so grateful that I am here to show him the wonders of our world. I work when I want to (or not, if I don't want too). I am his day time provider and am always here for him.

So how does Site Build It work?

First of all, it does involve work. It's not a get rich quick scheme and it's not always easy. But, it is fun and very rewarding; especially if you pick a topic you are passionate about.

SBI offers the complete "how to" package on building a successful website. It's designed for people with no experience in creating websites. The action guide provides a step-by-step process for choosing a topic and planning your site.

If you follow the guide and work through each of the steps, you can create a successful website that generates income, just as I have.

SBI takes care of almost everything; my email accounts, submitting articles to the search engines, hosting the site and helping me find profitable keywords to write about.

How many sites out there are focusing on "Going Green?" Tons!! The only way a small time WAHM is competing with bigger sites is the brainstorming and other keyword tools provided by SBI.

As you can see, "facts about earth day" and "recycled craft ideas" have quite of bit of demand and little supply. So, I leave keywords like "Going Green" and "Green Living" to the big dogs and focus on the keywords that have adequate demand but little supply.

I write articles based on these keywords. Income is generated by advertising placed on the site. (SBI helps you find this too!) My main income is from the Google Adsense program, but I also sell select products through Amazon.

I watch this site grow right along with my son. Traffic continues to increase as does my income. Each month, I am amazed to see more income generated than the month before.

Site Build It! is my hand holding tool. I am so happy with them; I am now using them again to build a second website!
