Recycle Aluminum Cans & Give Back Completely

When you recycle aluminum cans, the most amazing thing happens.

green living recycling go green recycling

According to the Aluminum Association, they reappear on store shelves in approximately 60 days, as brand new cans.

Unlike other recyclable materials that end up in a landfill, aluminum is 100% recyclable. Indefinitely.

The soda can you are drinking from now could hold the beer you drink on your next vacation. Or 8 Saturdays from now. Pretty amazing, huh?

How to Recycle Cans:

  1. Check your county's recycling center or Earth 911 for information in your area. Many programs provide curbside pickup and free recycling bins.
  2. If you haven't received one from your local recycling program, find a container. Milk crates or storage tubs work well. Designate it for aluminum only.
  3. Rinse cans and place in bin for curbside pick-up.

Other Ways to Recycle Aluminum

If an item has aluminum in it, there's a good chance it can be recycled.

You can recycle aluminum bottles and pie plates through many curbside programs.

Larger aluminum items like lawn furniture, building materials and cookware can be recycled.

Check Earth 911 for locations in your area that will accept these.

Can you Recycle Aluminum Foil?

Technically, yes, but most curbside programs won't accept it. The problem isn't the foil itself. It's the crusted cheese that's left behind after you've made Grandma's homemade lasagna. Finding an effective way to clean aluminum foil before recycling it is the challenge.

Here are two going green tips for when you do use aluminum foil:

  • Wash and Reuse it.
  • Buy 100% Recycled Aluminum foil. It's a little more, but is cost effective if you use it twice.
