Recycled Craft Projects:
How to Make an Easter Egg Creepy Crawler

Recycled craft projects are great, especially when you get to repurpose seasonal items.

Now that Easter is over, turn those plastic eggs into a caterpillar, worm or snake. Adult supervision is necessary for this project!

Step 1: Gather Items

  1. Plastic Easter Eggs (We used 20, but it depends how long you want to make your creepy crawler.)
  2. Easy Kids Crafts

  3. String, twine, or garden wire (We used garden wire so our caterpillar could bend.)
  4. Scissors
  5. Drill, 1/4 inch drill bit

  6. Permanent marker to draw the face

  7. Tape or strong glue

Step 2: Set Up

Easy Kids Crafts
  1. Open up the eggs. Empty out any candy and make sure they are clean.

  2. Decide what color you want the head. Set aside an egg for it.

  3. Decide what color you want the tail. Set aside another egg for it.

  4. Gather the string. Cut it about a foot longer than you want your creepy crawler.

Step 3: Drilling the Holes

Have an adult drill holes in each egg half. Our garden wire was thick, so we used a 1/4 inch drill bit to make large holes.

Note: Please use your manufacturer's safety recommendations when drilling.

Step 4: Assemble the Tail

  1. Get the egg you are using for the tail. Open it.

  2. String half of the egg. Easy Kids Crafts Easy Kids Crafts

  3. Tie a knot at the end of the rope.

  4. Tape or glue the egg together.

Step 5: String the Eggs

This is the fun part!

String the egg halves in the same direction.

Get creative and alternate bright colors. Or, keep it simple and use similar colors.

Step 6: Assemble the Head

  1. Get the egg you set aside for the head.

  2. Take the egg apart. You will only use half of it for the head.

  3. Look at the last piece you strung on the creepy crawler. Use the same size for the head.

  4. Tie a knot at the end of the creepy crawler. Cut off any excess rope.

  5. Tape or glue the head to the creepy crawler. A strong glue works best. Hold the head in place for 60 seconds or until the glue dries.

Step 7: Give it Character

Use a permanent marker to draw a face on your caterpillar, snake, or worm.

We even used part of the garden wire to add antennas!

Find a special place for your new creation.
